The Sydenham and District Optimist Club recently made a presentation of $500 to Second Chance Kids (SCK) to assist them with their work with needy families in Grey/Bruce.

"We chose SCK as they financially assist families from Grey/Bruce who must travel outside of the local area to get special hospital facilities for their kids. They provide money for gas, hotels and meals."

Optimist International's purpose is: To develop optimism as a philosophy of life utilizing the tenets of the Optimist Creed; to promote an active interest in good government and civic affairs; to inspire respect for the law; to promote patriotism and work for international accord and friendship among all people; and to aid and encourage the development of youth, in the belief that the giving of one’s self in service to others will advance the well-being of humankind, community life and the world.

Second Chance Kids is a non-profit organization that provides support to families of Grey and Bruce Counties who have a child who requires lengthy out-of-town hospitalization. We offer both financial and emotional support, as well as advocacy. More about them here.
