poets-lauraet23rd Annual Noon Hour Series Concerts Unveiled
Free/By Donation series features local and nationally renowned performers on stage at Georgian Shores United Church every Wednesday at 'Noon.

June 4th 2016, Owen Sound: Explore a world of music this summer with the Noon Hour Series. Featuring local favourites and nationally recognized performers, the series will showcase violinists, spoken word, chamber ensembles, jazz piano, singers, songwriters every Wednesday from June 29th-August 31st from 12:00-1:00pm at Georgian Shores United Church. All events are free/by donation.

The music and stories kick-off on June 29th with Owen Sound poet laureates, Rob Rolfe, and famous folk/blues player Larry Jensen presenting "Mudtown Songs and Poetry." Rolfe and Jensen have been described as a duo that "fuse the spoken word, songs, lyrics and poetry with instrumental music to explore working-class stories of Grey-Bruce-Owen Sound, Mudtown and beyond." The series continues with "Le Jazz," a journey back to early 1920's Paris, when jazz was hot, America was cool, and Gershwin, Ravel, and Copland ruled.

"Each week our goal is to whisk you away into another world through music." says Sebastian Ostertag, a coordinator of this year's series. "Travel with us as we explore Owen Sound in it's industrial glory, the fusion of Jazz improv with Ghanian Highlife, Soviet Russia, and 19th century Europe." To conclude this exciting season, the Noon Hour Series will once again present a final evening concert on August 31st at 7:30pm featuring a full orchestra, and returning series favourites. "The performers and audiences are what makes the Noon Hour a success" added Joachim Ostertag, the series founder and Artistic Director. "We are so pleased to welcome local favourites the Surround Sound Trio, Katie Gleiser, and Kelda Mikalson, as well as the Orchestra North Faculty Ensemble, Penrose Trio, Daniel Kruger and Erin Purdon, who are our visiting artists."

About the Noon Hour Series: Now in its twenty-third season, the Noon-Hour series was founded in 1993 by Joachim Ostertag as a concert venue for local artists to perform during the summer. Originally held at the Tom Thomson Gallery, the series has since taken residency at Georgian Shores United Church (997 4th Ave East) and features a diverse range of musical genres, from jazz, classical, folk and world music. Held every Wednesday until August 31st, the series has inspired our region's best musicians to collaborate, develop as performers, and pursue musical excellence. In return they have been able to share their love and passion for music.
