On Tuesday January 15, The Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program (OYAP) sponsored a Young Women Try the Trades Night at Owen Sound District Secondary School (OSDSS). Young Women from OSDSS and surrounding elementary schools were able to try their hand at the various technology labs in the school.
After safety instruction, each student had the opportunity to try welding, culinary arts, drywalling, oil and tire changing, small engine repair, CNC cutting, carpentry and 3D design and printing.
Female tradeswomen were also invited as mentors for some of the workshops and talk about their careers in the Skilled Trades.
This event is a way for young women to get exposure to the various technology areas OSDSS has to offer and get early exposure to the Apprenticeship career pathway.
