ESLGrey Bruce Settlement Services began delivery of a full slate of LINC English as a Second Language (ESL) classes on September 8, 2020. Levels offered are from Literacy to Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) Level 6. Classes are currently online-afternoon and evening, until restrictions are lifted to allow for in-class delivery. In July and August, we ran a “Summer School” pilot project of two classes which allowed staff to test and refine the online delivery model. The summer session was very well received with over 19 participants, who have moved into the September session.

ESL training is important for newcomers not only to assist with preparing for Canadian Citizenship but also to be able to work and integrate into Grey Bruce. Class space is limited so anyone interested in joining these classes should contact us as soon as possible to reserve your seat.

Grey Bruce Settlement Services also looks forward to continuing to offer a full range of services to newcomers despite the current restrictions. Settlement Workers have been able to successfully connect with newcomers in Grey and Bruce, to help them with their settlement goals including real-world language practice, learning about Canadian culture and preparation for Citizenship test. Settlement staff can assist with navigating day-to-day life here in Canada including anything from support with finding employment and childcare to the process of receiving accreditation of foreign credentials or education and application assistance for immigration. This Program is funded by the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).
