ATV-fullMore types of off-road vehicles (ORVs) and all-terrain vehicles (ATVs) will have increased on-road access in Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound thanks to rule changes introduced by the Ontario government.

Beginning July 1, 2015, more types of ORVs and ATVs, including two-up ATVs, side-by-side ATVs and utility-terrain vehicles (UTVs), will be allowed to use the shoulder of public roads. To ensure that ORV and ATV riders safely reach their destination, drivers and passengers of all ages will have to wear a helmet and use a seatbelt or foot rests, where applicable.

Local power-sports clubs, enthusiasts and suppliers believe that connecting our local trail systems through increased on-road access will be good news for enthusiasts and will be a boost for economic activity in the region.

The provincial government will be promoting the new rules before they take effect on July 1 to remind riders and drivers about the changes and to give municipalities enough lead time to amend their by-laws.
