opp-p0lice-july-fullOn July 30th 2014 just after 8:30pm a male drove his vehicle on a closed road being the construction zone in the 100 block of 2nd Avenue East, Owen Sound and in doing so struck a construction vehicle and equipment.

A citizen tried to stop the man as he could smell alcohol on the driver's breath however the male continued to drive his vehicle with two flat front tires. As a result the citizen called police.

Two further citizens contacted police about the driver as he continued to drive home subsequently striking a parked vehicle in the 500 block of 4th Avenue East, Owen Sound.

Officers arrived at the driver's residence to find him in the driver's seat of the vehicle parked in the detached garage with the garage door closed and locked. The driver was not initially co-operative indicating that he wanted to fight with police however was taken into custody without incident.

The 75 year old male driver blew three times the legal limit of 80mg of alcohol in 100ml of blood.

The Owen Sound man will appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on August 14, 2014 to answer to several charges.

The driver's licence is automatically suspended for a period of 90 days from the date of the offence and his vehicle towed and impounded for a period of 7 days.

The quick actions of the community allowed police to take the driver into custody and prevent him from having further disregard for the safety of the public on our roadways.
