I grew up poor in a single-parent home with my mother and a younger brother. That probably explains why I’m so frustrated and angry about poverty, and asking voters to make this issue a priority, along with climate change, as you vote on June 2.
Let me tell you what “poor” meant to me as I grew up in Niagara Falls in the 50s - which, shockingly, is not much different from what tens of thousands of children experience in 2022.

Since I have been old enough to vote, I have marked my ballot for 3 different parties.
In the last decade, I have worked on Liberal campaigns and most would identify me as a diehard Liberal. This is not the reason I will be voting for Selwyn Hicks on June 2nd.
Selwyn Hicks, who has taken a leave from his responsibilities as Grey County Warden to run as the Liberal candidate in the June 2 provincial election, opened his campaign office in downtown Owen Sound with these remarks:
"I first want to respectfully acknowledge the history, spirituality and culture of the Anishinabek, Six Nations of the Grand River, Haudenosaunee and Wendat-Wyandot-Wyandotte peoples on whose traditional territories we gather. ...
Grey County Warden Selwyn ‘Buck' Hicks will be taking a leave of absence from County Council as he runs as the Liberal candidate for MPP of Grey-Bruce-Owen Sound in the upcoming provincial election. Grey County’s Deputy Warden, Paul McQueen will serve as acting warden during the leave.
“I am taking a temporary leave knowing I cannot perform my role as Warden to the best of my ability while also directing my energy to an election campaign,” stated Hicks. ...
