OS-Policesept-fullOn January 20th, 2018 at approximately 3:30 a.m. a stolen 2005 GMC pickup truck was driven through the double set of doors leading to the food court of the Heritage Place Mall in Owen Sound. After the two unknown culprits in the vehicle smashed their way in causing considerable damage, they made their way to the nearby ATM machine. They quickly loaded the ATM machine into the rear box of the pickup truck and exited the same route they came in. A very short time after the stolen vehicle was found on fire behind a business off of 20th Street East. The suspects had removed the ATM machine and appear then to have set the vehicle ablaze. The Owen Sound Fire Department attended and extinguished the fire before it had the opportunity to spread and cause damage to the structures close by. The vehicle had been stolen earlier in the morning from the driveway of a residence on the West side of Owen Sound.

The Owen Sound Police Forensic Identification Unit attended both scenes. At this time it has not been determined how much money was in the ATM machine when it was stolen. Police continue to investigate; no further information or details with regards to this crime are currently available.

The Owen Sound Police Service is seeking assistance in identifying the persons responsible.
