policecarOn Thursday July 30th at approximately 9 p.m., a 53- year- old male from Cargill, was arrested after attempting to avoid an Owen Sound Police Service R.I.D.E. program.

The R.I.D.E. program was being conducted on 10th Street West between 8th Avenue and 9th Avenue. Upon observing the cruiser lights, the accused abruptly stopped his vehicle and struck the curb causing his tire to deflate. Officers approached the driver and immediately detected obvious signs of impairment by alcohol consumption. Open alcohol and Cannabis were found in the area of the driver.

The accused was arrested and taken to the Owen Sound Police Station where he refused to provide breath samples as required. The driver’s license of the accused was suspended for 90 days and his vehicle was impounded for seven days.

The accused was charged and has an October court date to answer to the following offences;

1) Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle
2) Refuse to Provide Breath Sample
3) Drive Motor Vehicle with Liquor Readily Available
4) Drive Motor Vehicle with Cannabis Readily Available
