From a former maternity hospital to acemetery, Doors Open Owen Sound offers a perspective into the heritage and culture of our community. On June 4 and 5, most sites are open from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM. This is a unique opportunity to explore and enjoy 19 sites of cultural, historical, environmental and architectural
significance in and around the City – all free of charge.
Part of Doors Open Ontario (DOO), Owen Sound's event includes a mix of favourite sites and exciting new venues. Our community has participated in this successful annual event since 2003, welcoming thousands of visitors from throughout Grey and Bruce Counties, Ontario, and even internationally.

As previously communicated, the recently established Owen Sound Naming Committee is reaching out to the public for input in naming the newly combined secondary school that current Owen Sound Collegiate and Vocational Institute (OSCVI) and West Hill Secondary School (WHSS) students and staff will attend in September 2016.
The Naming Committee, which includes student, staff, trustee and community representation from both schools, is seeking name submissions until Tuesday, May 31, 2016 through any of the various communications methods listed below:

In April of this year the Ontario government floated a proposal to cut the interest rate Payday loan companies can charge clients from the current 21% to 19% or 17% or 15% over the short term of the loan. Currently, by the time you add in fees and interest for a year, the rate of borrowing can be as high as 500% per annum.
These short-term, high interest loans are driving many people into a debt that is impossible to pay back. They target precarious workers who have no where else to turn for the money they need to get to the end...
