LopezPhotoColorregAs the Georgian Bay Symphony continues its search for a new Music Director, Cuban-born Yunior Lopez will take the podium for its March 28 concert. Lopez is this year’s guest conductor for the Havana Virtuoso Orchestra and recently conducted the Las Vegas Honors Orchestra. Lopez is a conductor, chamber player, violist and ...cigar-maker. He will be donating a box of his cigars from his own cigar company in Kentucky, Don Lopez Cigars, as a silent auction item for the 16th Annual Vintners’ Dinner on April 18th.

The Georgian Bay Symphony is also pleased to welcome Russian born violinist, Stanislav Pronin back for a return engagement after a European tour.

Pronin has performed at Carnegie Hall and The National Arts Centre in Ottawa and in major venues and on television and radio in the United States, Canada, Europe and Israel.

The concert on March 28th is an evening of “Nothing But Classics”.

Toronto bluegrass phenoms the Foggy Hogtown Boys will be at the Roxy Theatre on Saturday, March 28th. Linsey & John Beckett will be opening this Mudtown Music & Arts Series show. Seven-time Maple Blues Award winner Harry Manx has been creating musical short stories that wed the tradition of the blues with the depth of classical Indian ragas. He'll be performing these gems on Fri March 27 at the Meaford Hall. Show time is 8pm. Tickets are $40

The SweetWater Festival, now entering its 12th season, leverages that tax money by supporting our region's cultural and economic vitality.

The SweetWater Music Festival will take place from September 18 to 20, 2015, in Leith
and Owen Sound, Ontario with concerts at the Georgian Shores United
Church and the Historic Leith Church. Some of the best professional musicians, local, national and international, will be providing school visits, master classes and artist talks in our community thanks to this unique festival.

Watch for more information about the upcoming SweetWater Horns Aplenty Brass Festival April 24 and 25, featuring the Don E. Johnson Brass Ensemble and True North Brass.

film-regAttention young filmmakers! The libraries of Bruce and Grey counties want your films for the 2015 Grey Bruce Youth Film Festival to be held at the Owen Sound Galaxy Cinemas on April 20, 2015.

Enter for a chance to see your film on the big screen at the Owen Sound Galaxy Cinema, and a chance to win $150, a GoPro Camera or tickets to the United Way's Starlight Film Festival. Some films from the Grey Bruce Youth Film Festival are also selected to be screened at the Meaford International Film Festival.

In addition to the junior, senior and people's choice categories, this year's festival features an additional category sponsored by the City of Owen Sound. Films that prominently feature the City as a setting will be eligible to win a GoPro Camera.

Santa Fe Gallery presents a collection of work by local artist, the late Don Nixon on Saturday, March 21st at 2pm. Don's wife, Harriet Nixon will give a short talk at 2.30pm. Nixon's work is well known in the area. The exhibit runs until April, 11th.
