grads-regOn Oct. 16, approximately 100 students will graduate from a variety of programs at the Owen Sound Campus. Friends and family members will also attend as guests, making this one of the most meaningful times of the Georgian College academic year.

boa-regOwen Sound - Wednesday, October 15, 2014 – City Officials report that the search for 'Princess' the missing boa constrictor continues.

Princess was last seen early Saturday morning by her owner in their home located in the area of 11th Street West and 4th Avenue West, and was reported missing Sunday morning.

"I have met with Renee Robins, Owen Sound Animal Control Officer and we now have reason to believe that Princess is still inside her owner's home", says Mayor Deborah Haswell. "These breeds of snakes are permitted in the City of Owen Sound, however in accordance to by-law 1997-089, section 1.3; they must be kept in escape proof cages."

flare-regCOLLINGWOOD - Officers from Collingwood and The Blue Mountains OPP are investigating the deliberate setting of a fire at a local high school earlier this afternoon.

On the 14th of October 2014 at approximately 1:30pm, OPP along with the Collingwood Fire Department were dispatched to the Collingwood Collegiate High School for a fire alarm. A fire was found to have been deliberately set in a washroom in the school. The school was quickly evacuated as fire crews extinguished the flames, which caused damage to the washroom area.

No one was hurt however police are remaining at the scene to investigate the blaze with the help of members of the Office of the Fire Marshal.

page-regOttawa, ON – Larry Miller, MP for Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound, is encouraging all interested students in Bruce and Grey Counties to apply to become a House of Commons Page in 2015.
Every year, 40 students are selected from across Canada to become Pages in the Canadian House of Commons. Pages serve the Speaker, Chair Occupants, Members of Parliament and Table Officers in various capacities. Collecting and distributing official documents, delivering important messages to Members, linking Members to their Hill offices and delivering glasses of water are among the many duties of a House of Commons Page.
To be eligible for the Page Program you must:

  • Be a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident;
  • Be graduating from a secondary school and be commencing full-time studies at one of the four universities in the National Capital Region;
  • Have an overall academic average of at least 80%;
  • Be able to communicate fluently in both official languages;

Georgian-Entrepreneurship-regGeorgian College and the Ontario Ministry of Research and Innovation have announced a wide-ranging series of programs and activities designed to encourage and support student and youth entrepreneurship across central Ontario.
The initiative was unveiled at a gathering of entrepreneurs at Georgian's Barrie Campus on Oct. 7.
Funding of $200,000 is being provided by the On Campus Entrepreneurship Activities program, through the Ontario Centres of Excellence. This amount will be matched by Georgian College. The program will be co-ordinated through Georgian's Henry Bernick Entrepreneurship Centre.
