aidanwaresmallOn Monday, it was my great pleasure (from six feet away) to welcome Aidan Ware to the Tom Thomson Art Gallery. The Gallery’s new Director and Chief Curator continues to work (from home) developing plans in anticipation of the day when the Gallery can be reopened to the public, and she can welcome you in.

As for myself, I am excited to be returning to the Gallery’s vault, to oversee the care and public engagement of the Gallery’s amazing art collection. During my time as Acting Director, one of the themes the Gallery’s Advisory Committee and I heard from the community, was to bring the Collection out of the vault for visitors to see.

I am eager to share with you (when restrictions are lifted) the Gallery’s newest exhibition from the Collection, Group of Seven: The View from Here. This exhibition showcases 90 artworks, and explores the unique connections between the members of the Group and Owen Sound, the legacy of community donors and the importance of the Gallery’s Collection within the larger Group of Seven story. The View from Here offers an intimate local perspective on the artists that helped shape the nation.

Until the day that you can visit in person, join us on social media for some sneak peeks of the show and recent additions to the Collection.

David Huff, Curator of Collections, Tom Thomson Art Gallery
