The 2022 municipal and school board election is fast approaching. For anyone proposing to be a candidate or a third party advertiser for the 2022 municipal or school board election on October 24, 2022, the official nomination period starts today.

Candidates interested in running for local offices (municipal and school board) in the 2022 Municipal Election must file a nomination with the City Clerk. Candidates are encouraged to book an appointment to submit their nomination forms by emailing [email protected] or calling 519-370-7340.

Nominations will be accepted during regular business hours from Monday, May 2, 2022 to Thursday, August 18, 2022 between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. (Monday through Friday) and on Friday, August 19, 2022 between 9:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. (Nomination Day) at City Hall located at 808 2nd Avenue East, Owen Sound.

A prescribed fee in the amount of $200.00 for Head of Council and $100.00 for all other candidates payable by cash, debit, certified cheque or money order must accompany the nomination form. Candidates for City Council must also provide the endorsement of at least 25 persons when filing the nomination. Candidates must not spend or raise any funds for their election campaign until the nomination form has been filed. The nomination and endorsement forms are available at the City Hall Service Counter or on the City’s election website at www.owensoundvotes.ca.

A third party advertiser is any individual, corporation or trade union that causes an election campaign advertisement to appear. Third party advertisers are required to register with the City Clerk. Registrations of third party advertisers will be accepted between Monday, May 2, 2022 and Friday, October 21, 2022 during regular office hours.

Third party advertisers are encouraged to book an appointment to submit their registration forms by calling 519-370-7340 or emailing [email protected]. Until the Clerk certifies the registration, a third party advertiser may not spend money on their campaign, accept contributions or begin advertising. The registration form is available at City Hall or on the election website www.owensoundvotes.ca.
