sips and tipsOctober is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and the locally based MammAlive Foundation is launching its first annual 30-day Breast Health Challenge to decrease the rising global incidence of breast cancer. Local Naturopath Sat Dharam Kaur has established practical methods for women to reduce their risk and has taught her program to train others to do this in Canada, Spain, Brazil, Ecuador, Chile, China, Mexico and Peru.

The campaign will be launched with a "Sips and Tips" event presented by Dr Kaur at The Ginger Press in downtown Owen Sound on Saturday September 17 from 2 to 5pm. Participants will learn about and enjoy samples of 12 herbal teas along with healthy snacks with anti-cancer properties. Recipes and health tips will be supplied. Register now (suggested donation - $30) at 376-4233. All money raised will support the MammAlive Foundation

Based in Owen Sound, the MammAlive Foundation is a not-for-profit organization with an international reach whose mission is to reduce risk of breast cancer now and in future generations by educating and empowering women globally to make healthy dietary and lifestyle changes, enhance understanding of their bodies and increase awareness of the impact of the environment on their health (more information at mammalivefoundation.org).

Between 2008-2012, the global incidence of breast cancer increased 20% and, despite vast amounts of money being raised to support research, breast cancer rates are still rising. The MammAlive Foundation hopes to change that by implementing a global campaign that emphasizes prevention and risk reduction.
