sex-violence-regViolence Prevention Grey Bruce is holding a Round Table on sexual violence prevention on Wednesday November 12, 2014 from 5:00 – 8:00 pm at the Grey Bruce Health Unit.

"We are inviting people from all walks of life to talk about preventing sexual violence in our community because this is such a taboo, and often difficult to grapple" said Bernice Connell, a member of the organizing committee and the manager of sexual assault services in Grey Bruce. "Into the Open is an invitation that will bring people and ideas together. We hope it will help us learn together about the things that make it hard to tackle sexual violence, and the things we can do together to make change."

fraud-regIt has come to the attention of the Owen Sound Police Service that local residents are again being inundated with fraudulent schemes designed specifically to steal their money. Persons are contacted either by phone or in some cases by e-mail. Potential victims have also been contacted by persons pretending to be employees of Canadian banking institutions. The fraudster will tell the unsuspecting victim that there has been suspicious activity on their Credit Card and ask that they confirm their card number.

turbine-regToday, Health Canada published findings from the Wind Turbine Noise and Health Study. Launched in 2012, in collaboration with Statistics Canada, this study explored the relationship between exposure to wind turbine noise and the health effects reported by, and measured in, people living near wind turbines.

In the effort of being more open and transparent, the findings are available on Health Canada's website. The findings provide a more complete overall assessment of the potential impacts that exposure to wind turbines may have on health and well-being.

No evidence was found to support a link between exposure to wind turbine noise and any of the self-reported or measured health endpoints examined. However, the study did demonstrate a relationship between increasing levels of wind turbine noise and annoyance towards several features (including noise, vibration, shadow flicker, and the aircraft warning lights on top of the turbines) associated with wind turbines.
