A 50 year old Owen Sound woman faces charges of assault with a weapon and breach of probation. The woman was having issues with her neighbours across the hall after she was spoken to by them for dumping garbage and food out her window. The woman, who had been drinking, decided to spray Raid towards the entrance of the neighbour's apartment. When the neighbour opened her door to see what the noise was, the woman ignited the spray with a lighter and directed the makeshift flamethrower at the neighbour. The neighbour was able to retreat into the apartment unharmed. The woman was arrested and charged and held for a bail hearing scheduled for the following day to answer to charges of Assault with a Weapon, Breach of Probation, and Breach of an Officer in Charge Undertaking.
OWEN SOUND – On October 10th, 2014, Bruce Peninsula OPP received a report of theft and fraud, which has resulted in the arrest of an Owen Sound woman.
An investigation, led by the Bruce Peninsula OPP Crime Unit, revealed that the theft and fraud occurred between November 2009 and January 2010. The victim in this case became aware of the theft and reported the incident to police for further investigation.
A 49-year-old woman, of Owen Sound, was arrested and charged with one count each of theft over $5,000 and fraud over $5,000. She is scheduled to appear on December 11th, 2014 at the Ontario Court of Justice in Owen Sound.
SOUTHGATE – On Sunday, November 2, 2014 at approximately 4:30 a.m., Grey County OPP was called to a residence on Southgate Sideroad 13 in the Township of Southgate, after a male had entered the residence and assaulted an occupant while he and other members of his family were asleep.
After assaulting the 22 year old male victim, the accused allegedly drank some beer, before leaving the scene in a vehicle. The victim suffered minor injuries.
While enroute to the scene, police observed the suspect vehicle, a 1998 Infinity, travelling northbound on Grey Rd. 14 and attempted to stop it. The vehicle continued at speeds well over the posted 80 km/hr speed limit. Police followed the vehicle until it came to a stop in a private laneway on Southgate Rd. 22, at which time the lone driver, the accused, exited the vehicle and was arrested for flight from police.
SOUTHGATE – On Saturday, November 1, 2014 at approximately 8:00 p.m., Grey County OPP attended a residence on Highway 6 in the Township of Southgate after receiving a report of a child who was injured as a result of a dog bite.
The victim, a two-year-old girl, and her mother were visiting friends at the residence when the family pet, a blind, large mixed breed dog, bit the child on the head causing an injury to her face.
The victim was taken to a local hospital and then air lifted to a hospital in London with non-life threatening injuries. She has since been released from hospital.
The Grey Bruce Public Health Unit was notified.
Ottawa, ON – Today, Mr. Ryan McManaman and Mr. David Alexander received the Governor General's History Awards for Excellence in Teaching at a special ceremony at Rideau Hall, the official residence of the Governor General in Ottawa. Larry Miller, MP for Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound, was in attendance and congratulated Mr. McManaman and Mr. Alexander at the ceremony.
The Governor General's History Awards for Excellence in Teaching is presented to individual teachers or teams of teachers for excellence in teaching Canadian history. This year, there were a total of 8 recipients.
Mr. McManaman and Mr. Alexander are receiving this prestigious award in recognition of their dedication to teaching students about local Veterans from the Owen Sound area. Their unique teaching projects encouraged students to learn more about the history of local residents from Owen Sound during the time of the First and Second World War.
