Water samples taken at Southampton Beach, Port Elgin Beach and Station Park Beach (Kincardine) show results within acceptable levels according to Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care standards.
The Grey Bruce Health Unit took samples on Tuesday and Wednesday, August 19/20, 2014. Based on these results, the beaches, which were posted as unsafe on August 14, 2014, are now deemed safe for bathing.
Everybody got a little dig in as the dignitaries donned hard hats and turned the sod for Owen Sound's Wastewater Treatment Plant. MP Larry Miller and Arthur Potts, Parliamentary Assistant to Ontario's Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, reminded us that their respective governments were each committing approximately $15 million through the Green Infrastructure Fund. The rest of the projected $48,088,000 cost will be borne by the city, debentured and repaid from municipal sewage revenues rather than property taxes. Potts quipped to project manager Matt Prentice that "under budget" was the new standard, to the approving nod of city manager Ruth Coursey.
The Owen Sound Police Service is claiming the 1st Annual Sk8 Park Jam, held in Owen Sound on Tuesday evening, a great success.
Owen Sound Police Service Community Services Officer, Constable Mike Dazé stated, "Approximately two hundred participants and observers attended at the new Kiwanis Sk8 and Bike Park to show off their skills on skateboards, scooters, and BMX bikes."
GEORGIAN BLUFFS– On Wednesday, August 20, 2014, at approximately 9:20 p.m., Grey County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a phone call from a hiker requesting assistance after she had become disoriented and wasn't able to find her way off the trail before it became dark.
MEAFORD – On Tuesday, August 19, 2014, Grey County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received several theft from vehicle reports in the Annan/Leith area of the Municipality of Meaford. Ten unlocked vehicles had been entered and items including loose change, GPSs, CDs, sunglasses, prescription glasses and a camera were stolen.
