The Glassworks Cooperative is pleased to invite members, potential partners, and community members to participate in a series of collaborative design workshops to develop Owen Sound’s first zero-carbon, affordable, mixed-use neighbourhood.

Following the exciting news in December that Glassworks has finalized an agreement to purchase a beautiful 40+ acre property on the East side of Owen Sound, Wednesday, January 13th will kickstart a series five bi-weekly collaborative design sessions that will help shape the future of a resilient zero-carbon eco-village with housing, renewable energy production, and economic development projects co-created with future residents, local partners, and social entrepreneurs.

“We’re excited to engage members, partners and future residents in this process,” said Kelsey Carriere, a founding board member. “It is so seldom that people have an opportunity to shape their communities in any concrete way, and with such a strong commitment to sustainability, affordability and community design, I think we are shaping the future of housing.”

New members, potential future residents and curious community members are all invited to participate. Sessions will be held online featuring guest speakers, hands-on design work, and lots of opportunity for input, questions and conversation. No experience necessary!

The focused themes of each session range from the planning the site and designing the public spaces, to renewable energy systems and food production, to designing for seniors, and exploring ideal building materials and methods.

Local businesses or start ups with a shared vision for sustainability and shared facilities are invited to attend our “Work with us” session, January 27 to learn about land share opportunities for symbiotic businesses to locate at the Glassworks site.

Visit the Glassworks website to learn more, register for any of the co-design workshops, become a member and receive updates. Anyone wishing to get more involved or support the project in other ways should email us at [email protected].
