Current CEO, Bert Loopstra announced in March his intention to retire at the end of June, 2015 after serving in this position since 2005.

The Chamber's search committee received a significant response from candidates seeking to fill this position and several worthy candidates were interviewed.

"Peter's résumé and interview stood out," said Debbie. "He brings a wealth of experience and expertise that are congruent with the needs of the Chamber and its members. Peter is an accomplished professional with 35+ years of experience in the private and not-for-profit sectors. He has advanced capabilities in public relations, corporate marketing, business development, advocacy, member relations and fundraising."

Debbie also stated that, "as a Director on the Chamber Board and long-term member on the Advocacy and Marketing Committees, Peter has demonstrated an aptitude for creative problem solving, strategic and tactical planning, program development and implementation."

On accepting the position of CEO, Peter stated, "it is a privilege to be offered the chance to work for an organization like the Chamber which I have admired and been a member of for over three decades. As CEO, Bert has set a high bar in the provincial Chamber community and I look forward to the challenge of following in his footsteps."

Peter has a history of volunteerism including serving on several not-for-profit boards and committees including: The Hamilton Chamber of Commerce, Hamilton Community Foundation, United Way of Burlington and Greater Hamilton and Junior Achievement of Hamilton.
Peter is a Marketing and Public Relations Consultant who moved with his wife Deborah, a Social Worker with a practice in Private Adoption and Counselling, to Georgian Bluffs five years ago from Ancaster, Ontario. They chose to pursue their careers in a community more in keeping with their work and lifestyle and which they consider Ontario's hidden gem.
