Community Foundation Grey Bruce is pleased to announce that a total of $246,633 has been distributed this fall through Capital and Community grants to local charities and non-profits supporting projects that address community wellbeing across the Grey Bruce region. Ten grants were awarded to very diverse Capital projects. Home and Community Support Services (HCSS) received a $10,000 grant to enhance the outdoor space for their programs in Port Elgin and Owen Sound. "The pandemic has really highlighted for everyone just how important access to the outdoors is. The fencing will allow the Adult Day Away programs to safely extend to the outdoors, improving the program and helping people continue to live in their homes and community longer," says Executive Director Stephen Musehl.

Other capital projects addressing priorities for community health as identified in our Vital Signs report were supported through Hanover Community Players, the Wiarton Propeller Club, Alzheimer Grey-Bruce, Ripley Agricultural Society, and Women’s House Serving Bruce & Grey among others.

Applications for Fall Community Grants reflect that Grey Bruce is launching fresh projects and programs that reflect what we’ve learned through the pandemic.

Grants to support interactive learning programs to non-profits such as The Big Sound, Strong Start, Junior Achievement and Meaford Singing Strings enhance learning for local students in music, science and reading, in the classroom and after school.

Food insecurity and the need for sustainable solutions as we move into winter was a clear priority with organizations applying to create and expand community gardens in Meaford, Owen Sound, and Durham, a new Community Closet & Pantry at South East Grey Community Health Centre, and hot food programs or meal classes through United Way of Bruce Grey, Safe ‘N Sound, Southwest Ontario Aboriginal Health Access Centre, and The Chesley Baptist Church Hot Meal Program.

Community Foundation Grey Bruce manages more that 165 endowed funds, comprising over $20 million dollars in community assets, that generate income that is disbursed as grants to charities and non-profits addressing quality of life in Grey and Bruce Counties.
