BruceCounty logoAt the Thursday, Feb. 2, Corporate Services Committee Meeting, Bruce County Council approved the 2023-2027 Capital and Operating Budget in principle. This budget illustrates 2023 inflationary pressures, the desire to improve our net financial asset position, and the desire to eliminate the annual infrastructure deficit over 15 years. Council has approved the 2023 portion of the budget only, with approval of the budget by-law expected to take place in March. Forecasted numbers for 2024-2027 may be amended in future budget discussions.

With this 2023 budget, Bruce County intends to strengthen the foundation of core services by changing course towards fiscal sustainability, being resilient to change, building reserves, and becoming the employer of choice in Bruce County by attracting and retaining a skilled workforce.

Capital expenditures from levy approved for 2023 come in at $12.1M of a total capital expenditures of $20.7M, while Operating expenditures from levy are set at $50.1M of a total operating expenditures of $127.6M. The County is making key investments in Paramedic Services, Long Term Care, Infrastructure, and Housing Facilities. The 2023 net levy increase will be 7.91%.

Warden Chris Peabody commented, “Infrastructure upgrades and support services are key priorities for Bruce County and are strongly reflected in this budget. We have moved the 2023 budget to remain in close alignment with inflation while continuing to support economic recovery and build up our reserves to fund future projects. I would like to thank County staff for their hard work and prudent planning on a budget that moves us forward on a fiscally responsible path.”
