The Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are happy to announce the launch of their Traffic Management Unit (TMU), serving both Grey and Bruce Counties.

The TMU is a full-time unit, composed of two Constables and a Sergeant. The purpose of the unit is to enhance roadway safety through proactive enforcement, aid with major collision investigations and provide traffic safety education to members of the public.

The TMU has been kept busy since its launch. Members have participated in several stunt driving investigations resulting in drivers receiving a 14-day vehicle impoundment, 30-day licence suspension, and a provincial court date.

"This is an exciting time for the Grey Bruce Detachment as we introduce our newly established Traffic Management Unit. These highly trained and dedicated officers will be instrumental in addressing community identified concerns related to traffic safety through high visibility enforcement. The formation of this unit will allow us to better focus our efforts on the unsafe driving practices that continue to take lives on our roadways. The Traffic Management Unit will work in collaboration with the community towards the goal of reducing the number of lives lost and persons injured on Grey Bruce roadways." - Acting Staff Sergeant Darryl Porterfield

The Grey Bruce OPP and TMU would like to remind members of the public that we all have a part to play in contributing to roadway safety. Drivers are reminded to plan for unexpected delays and abide by traffic laws while travelling to their destinations.
