gunA man has been charged with weapons offences.

During the afternoon hours of July 15, 2020 a veteran Owen Sound Police Officer entered the waters of Owen Sound bay near the Grain Elevators and retrieved an imitation firearm that a male suspect had just thrown into the water. A citizen had called police to report observing a man brandishing a handgun and concealing it in his waistband. As police arrived and confronted the suspect, he tossed the firearm into the bay. The man was bound by a court- imposed condition not to possess weapons.

Having observed the general location of where it was thrown, the firearm was quickly found and retrieved by the officer from the bottom of the bay in approximately ten feet of water along the west side of the pier.

Luther Shipley, 24 year old Owen Sound, man faces the following charges as a result of the incident;

1) Possession of an imitation firearm for a dangerous purpose
2) Carrying a concealed weapon
3) Failure to comply with an Undertaking
4) Failure to comply with a release order

The accused has been remanded into custody.
